The Hop: A Proven Driver of Economic Development & Investment

The Hop Investment Opportunities

Fostering economic development was a primary goal that was established at the onset of The Hop, and Milwaukee's streetcar system continues to make good on this promise.

Since the project was approved in 2015, signaling confidence and predictability to the development community, The Hop has attracted over $1.7 billions in new investment that has resulted in 2. 7 million square feet of new or renovated commercial space, over 1,000 apartment units and more than 360 hotel rooms directly along the Mainline and Lakefront routes that are recently completed, under construction or expected to start soon. When considering additional investments within walking distance of the starter routes, there has been nearly $1.3 billion in additional new commitments that has added another 1.8 million square feet of new or renovated commercial space, over 3,650 and 800 more apartments and hotel rooms, respectively, that are complete, under construction, or proposed.

The Hop streetcar is a proven guidepost for economic development and continues to attract waves of investment looking to take advantage of this transportation option and investment in the public realm.
